Mom Knows · Account deletion

Delete your Mom Knows account

You can ask for your Mom Knows account, and the personal data associated with it, to be deleted at any time. This page explains how, including if you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, what happens to your household’s information, and what we may keep.

This page is for the Mom Knows app, operated by the operator’s legal name (owner review required).

Delete your account in the app

  1. Open Mom Knows and sign in.
  2. Go to More → Account → Delete account.
  3. Confirm it’s you: enter your password or, if you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, sign in with it again when the app asks.

This works for every Mom Knows account, including accounts that have no email address. Until your account is deleted, the same screen shows the status of your request and lets you cancel it.

Can’t use the app? Ask us by email

Email support@momknows.app with the subject “Delete my Mom Knows account”. You don’t need the app installed. Please tell us:

  • the email address on your Mom Knows account, if it has one;
  • whether you sign in with a password, or with Google, Apple or Facebook, and the name on that account;
  • the name of your household, if you know it.

To protect you, we confirm that a request really comes from the account holder before we delete anything, for example by writing to the email address on the account. We will never ask for your password.

If you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook

  • Delete in the app if you can. Accounts created with Facebook don’t have an email address in Mom Knows, because Facebook doesn’t tell us whether an address is confirmed, and some accounts created with Google or Apple don’t either. The app is the quickest way to delete these accounts; if you can’t use it, ask us by email.
  • Apple’s Hide My Email. If you chose to hide your email address, our messages reach you through the private relay address Apple gave us.
  • Your Google, Apple or Facebook account isn’t affected. Deleting your Mom Knows account doesn’t delete your account with those companies. You can also remove Mom Knows from the apps connected to that account, in its own settings.

What happens after you ask

  1. We confirm it’s you. In the app, you confirm with your password or by signing in again. By email, we check the request with the account holder. This means nobody can delete your account just by knowing your email address.
  2. You can change your mind until your account is deleted: cancel the request in the app, or email us.
  3. We delete your account and the personal data associated with it, as described below, and tell you when it’s done if your account has an email address.

Leaving a household isn’t deleting your account

Leave or be removed from a household

A Parent or Admin can deactivate your profile in their household. You lose access to that household, but your account stays and can be reactivated.

Sign out or disconnect

Signing out, even everywhere at once, only ends your sessions. Disconnecting Google, Apple or Facebook only removes that way to sign in. Nothing else is deleted.

Delete your account

Your Mom Knows account and the personal data associated with it are deleted. Deactivation is not deletion.

If you own a household

Every household in Mom Knows has one owner, who is always a Parent. Before an owner’s account can be deleted, ownership has to move to another Parent in the household, or the household has to be deleted. You can still ask for deletion now: we’ll contact you about your household before anything is removed. Mom Knows never deletes an owner’s account in a way that leaves a household without an owner. If you want the whole household deleted too, tell us.

What happens to household information

A household’s information is shared by the people in it, so deleting one person’s account is different from deleting a household.

  • Your access ends. Your account is disconnected from every household it belongs to, and your profile in each household is deactivated.
  • Your profile photo and the text of questions you asked the household assistant are deleted.
  • Your household profile’s details, and things you added that the household still uses (such as list items, events or tasks), are handled as described in the note below.
  • Deleting a whole household removes its information for everyone in it, except what we may keep as described below.

What we delete

  • Your account: your name, email address and password (which we only ever keep as a one-way hash).
  • Your ways to sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, including the identifier and email address each of them gave us.
  • Your signed-in sessions, and any email verification or password reset links.
  • The connection between your account and the household profiles it was linked to.
  • Any services you connected to Mom Knows, and the access you gave them.
  • Other personal data associated with your account, except what we may need to keep, below.

What we may keep

We may keep limited information when we have to, and only for as long as it’s needed:

  • information the law requires us to keep, or that we need to resolve disputes or enforce our Terms of Service;
  • security records, such as a record that an account existed or that someone signed in;
  • the household’s history of changes, such as a record that a person was added, renamed or given a permission, or that an item was added to a list; these records can include names and list items as they were at the time;
  • records of assistant use without the question itself, such as when a question was asked and how much processing it used;
  • records of the emails we sent to your account, such as when and whether they were delivered, without your email address;
  • a record of your deletion request and when it was completed;
  • copies in backups, until those backups are replaced;
  • household information the rest of your household still uses, as described above.
