Mom Knows helps a family keep its household organized in one place. To do that it holds personal information about you and the people you live with, including children. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We use your information to run Mom Knows for your household, keep it secure, and help you when you ask.
- We don’t sell your personal information, we don’t share it for advertising, and Mom Knows doesn’t show ads.
- People in your household see household information according to the roles and permissions your household sets.
- If you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, we receive only what we need to sign you in, and never your password for that service.
- When you use the household assistant, your question and the household information needed to answer it are processed by Google’s Gemini AI service.
- Some features, such as connected calendars, voice and forwarding email, aren’t available yet. We’ll update this policy before they launch.
- You can delete your account. Our Terms of Service explain the rules for using Mom Knows.
1. Who we are
Mom Knows is operated by the operator’s legal name (owner review required) (“Mom Knows”, “we”, “us”). This policy covers the Mom Knows apps, this website, the emails we send, and conversations with our support team.
Questions about privacy or your account: support@momknows.app.
2. Mom Knows before launch
Mom Knows is being prepared for launch, and some features described in this policy are not available yet. Each of those is labelled Not available yet. For each, we explain what information it would use, and we will update this policy before it becomes available.
3. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account with your email address, we collect the name you choose to display, your email address and your password. We never store your password itself: we store only a one-way cryptographic hash of it (Argon2id). We record whether you have confirmed your email address.
When you sign in, we keep a record of each signed-in session, including when it was created and last used, and the device or browser description your app or browser sends.
Signing in with Google, Apple or Facebook
If you choose to sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, that company confirms to us who you are there. We receive and keep:
- the identifier that company uses for your account with Mom Knows;
- the email address it shares with us, if any, and whether it says that address is confirmed;
- your name, which we use as your display name when your account is first created;
- when you connected the service and last signed in with it.
We never receive your password for that service. We use what the company gives us only to sign you in, keep your account secure and show your name. We don’t keep the access that company gives us, and we don’t ask for access to anything else in your Google, Apple or Facebook account, such as your contacts, photos or posts.
- Apple: if you choose Hide My Email, we receive a private relay address instead of your real one, and Apple forwards our emails to you.
- Facebook: Facebook doesn’t tell us whether an email address is confirmed, so an account created with Facebook doesn’t use that address as its Mom Knows email address. It’s kept only with the Facebook connection.
- Google: we use the information Google gives us only to sign you in, keep your account secure and show your name. We don’t use it for advertising and we don’t sell it. Mom Knows’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The company you sign in with also learns that you signed in to Mom Knows; its own privacy policy covers what it does with that. In the app, More → Account → Ways to sign in shows how you sign in, and you can disconnect a service there at any time, as long as your account keeps another way to sign in. When you connect or disconnect a service, we email the address on your account, if it has one.
Household and family profiles
A household in Mom Knows has a name and a time zone, an owner, and a list of the people in it. For each person, the household can record a name and the name the family uses for them, a relationship label (such as “Grandparent”), the colour Mom Knows shows for them, their role (Parent, Admin, Adult, Caregiver or Child), what they are allowed to do, and whether they are active. A person’s profile can be created by someone who manages the household, whether or not that person has their own account. When someone is invited and accepts, their account is connected to that profile.
When you invite someone by email, we collect the email address you enter so we can send them the invitation.
Household content
Mom Knows holds the information your household adds to it or that Mom Knows helps organize. Today that includes shared lists and their items, including quantities, notes, who an item is for, and who added or checked it. As more of Mom Knows is connected to our servers, it will also hold things like schedules and events, tasks and chores, meal plans and recipes, reminders and alerts, requests, rewards, screen-time information and notes.
Profile photos
A person, or someone who manages them in the household, can add a profile photo. We store the photo on our servers and show it to the active members of that household. A photo can contain information saved by the camera, such as when and where it was taken; we don’t currently remove that information, so you may prefer to use a photo without location details.
Files and documents you choose to add
Not available yet
When you can add a file or document (for example, a school permission slip), we will receive and store it to provide that feature.
The household assistant
Mom Knows includes an assistant your household can name. When you ask it something:
- We send your question, the recent messages in your conversation, and the household information needed to answer to Google’s Gemini API, an artificial intelligence service, which produces the answer. That information can include your name and role, the household’s name and time zone, the names, roles and relationships of the people in your household, and your household’s lists and list items. We don’t send email addresses or photos.
- The assistant can only look up what the person asking is allowed to see, and for now it can’t add, change or delete anything.
- We keep the text of each question, with a record of when it was asked, which assistant tools were used, and how much processing it took. We don’t keep the assistant’s answers on our servers; the conversation stays in the app until you clear it or close it.
- We don’t use your questions or household information to train AI models.
The picture and voice you choose for the assistant in the app stay on your device and are not sent to us.
Voice
Not available yet
When voice features are available and you choose to use them, Mom Knows will use your device’s microphone only with your permission, to understand what you say.
Email you send or forward to Mom Knows
Not available yet
We are building a way for households to send or forward email, such as messages from a school, to an address Mom Knows provides. If you use it, we will receive the whole email: the sender’s and recipients’ addresses, subject, date, message text and formatting, the names and details of attachments, and technical information our email provider adds (such as spam-check results). We treat every incoming email as untrusted. Before this feature is available, we will explain here how email content is used and how long it is kept.
Services you connect
Not available yet
If you choose to connect a service to Mom Knows, such as a Google or Apple calendar or an email account, Mom Knows will access the information you authorize that service to share (for example, calendar events) in order to show and organize it for your household. The credentials that let Mom Knows reach a connected service will be kept on our servers, never in the app, and you will be able to disconnect a service at any time.
Notifications
Not available yet
Mom Knows doesn’t send phone notifications yet. If it offers them, it will ask your permission first, you will be able to turn them off in your device settings, and we will update this policy to explain what information they use.
Device and technical information
When you use Mom Knows, our servers receive technical information such as your IP address, the date and time of each request, the address requested, and the device or browser description. Our servers record this in their logs. We use it to run the service, to keep it secure (for example, to slow down repeated attempts to guess a password or to send too many emails), and to diagnose problems.
On your device, the app keeps a sign-in token so you stay signed in (in the phone’s secure storage, or in the browser tab when you use Mom Knows on the web), and remembers which household you last opened. Both are removed when you sign out. The app asks for access to your camera or photo library only when you choose a photo. Mom Knows does not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics, crash-reporting or advertising tools.
Emails we send
We send emails you need about your account and household, such as welcome, email address verification, password reset, household invitation, security (for example, when how you sign in changes) and account deletion emails. We don’t send marketing email. Our email provider tells us whether each email was delivered, bounced, or marked as spam. Open and click tracking is turned off in these emails.
Payments
Not available yet
Mom Knows doesn’t charge for anything yet. If we offer paid plans, payments will be handled by the app store you use or by a payment processor, and we would receive information about your plan and its status rather than your full payment card number.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them to help you.
4. How we use information
- To provide Mom Knows to your household, and to show each person what their role allows.
- To sign you in, including with Google, Apple or Facebook when you choose to.
- To answer your questions with the household assistant, when you use it.
- To send the account and household emails you need, such as verification, password reset, invitation and security emails.
- To keep Mom Knows and the people who use it safe: preventing abuse and fraud, investigating problems, and keeping a record of important changes to accounts and households.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
We don’t sell your personal information, we don’t share it for targeted advertising, and we don’t use household information for advertising. Mom Knows doesn’t use third-party analytics; if that changes, we will update this policy first.
6. Children and families
Mom Knows is built for families and is meant to be set up and managed by adults: a parent, a guardian, or another adult who runs the household. Children can appear in Mom Knows when an adult who manages the household adds a profile for them, and that adult may invite a child to use their own account. A child with an account can see the household’s information and use the household assistant, within what their role allows.
Adults who manage a household decide what information to add about children, and can change or remove it. If you are a parent or guardian with questions about your child’s information, or you believe a child has given us personal information without the consent of a parent or guardian, contact support@momknows.app and we will take appropriate steps, including deleting it.
7. Security
We use safeguards designed to protect your information, including:
- passwords stored only as Argon2id hashes, and sign-in sessions and one-time email links stored only as hashes;
- sessions that expire, and one-time links that work once and expire quickly;
- permissions checked on our servers for every request, not just in the app;
- limits on repeated attempts, such as password guesses;
- a record of important changes to accounts and households;
- credentials for other services kept on our servers, never in the app;
- encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app, this website and our servers.
No system is perfectly secure. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires.
8. How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide Mom Knows. When it’s no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous, except where we must keep it longer, for example to comply with the law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect security.
- Account and sign-in information: until your account is deleted.
- Signed-in sessions: a session ends after 30 days without use, and after 90 days at most.
- One-time email links: a password reset link expires after 30 minutes, email verification and deletion confirmation links after 24 hours, and invitations after 7 days.
- Household information: while the household exists. Household information is shared by its members; see what happens when a member deletes their account.
- The household’s history of changes, assistant questions and usage records, server logs, email delivery records, and backups: for limited periods, described below.
9. Deleting your account
You can ask us to delete your Mom Knows account and the personal data associated with it at any time.
- In the app: go to More → Account → Delete account. This works for every account, including accounts created with Google, Apple or Facebook that have no email address.
- By email: write to support@momknows.app. We will confirm the request comes from you before deleting anything.
Leaving a household, or being deactivated from one, doesn’t delete your account, and disconnecting Google, Apple or Facebook only removes that way to sign in. If you own a household, ownership has to move to another Parent, or the household has to be deleted, before your account can be deleted. The account deletion page explains the steps, what is deleted, and what may be kept.
10. Your choices and rights
- You can update your household profile, and people who manage your household can update household information, in the app.
- You can choose whether to add a profile photo, use the household assistant, or sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, and you can remove a photo or disconnect a sign-in service later.
- You can leave a household, or ask someone who manages it to remove you.
- You can delete your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, to object to or limit certain uses of it, and to appeal our response to a request. To make a request, email support@momknows.app. We will verify that the request comes from you before acting on it, and we won’t treat you differently for making one.
11. Where information is stored
Our servers and our service providers may store and process information in countries other than the one where you live.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as Mom Knows changes, including before any of the features marked “Not available yet” launch. We will change the dates at the top of this page, and if a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
